Five Nights in Bali

Five consecutive nights of eating and drinking heaven in Bali was always going to be something special and the first night did not disappoint.

Jemme in Petitenget is an upmarket eatery built right next door to an upmarket jeweller of the same name. We enjoyed their signature roast lamb dinner washed down with a beautiful bottle of Chilean Shiraz and finished the evening with espresso martinis, so much fun.

The next night we booked at Metis restaurant in Petitenget, one of Bali’s premier upmarket eateries. Predinner drinks in the bar area included complimentary canopes and relaxing background mood music overlooking the rice paddy before being shown to our table. The french influenced ambience at this place is just so special.

We enjoyed a magnificent seafood dinner including snails and barramundi fillets complimented by my favorite white wine, a chilled bottle of New Zealand Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc, what a marvellous night out.

Following this experience we visited the Finns Beach Club, on Berawa Beach. We arrived in time for sunset on the roof-top bar in the VIP section and enjoyed a magnificent vista overlooking the ocean just 10m from the sandy beach. The white canvas lounges were so comfortable on the roof and again we enjoyed complimentary appertifs while sipping on our wine and watching the intense activity on the beachfront.

Downstairs for dinner overlooking the beach and enjoyed an entree of fried camembert cheese with walnut salad followed by delightful grilled salmon fillets, lubricated with a more..ish bottle of Chilean SSB, perfect evening after such an intensely tropical experience.

The next evening was spent at My Warung restaurant in Canggu. This is a two storey small funky come quirky restaurant which is very different, if only by the art, photographs and drawings on the walls which really do appeal to ones sense of artistic expression, best to take a look for yourself I think.

The 200g L’Entrecote Steak was superb as was the Argentinian Malbec. Happy hour cocktails preceded the meal and added that touch of color to the evening, superb time had and well worth a visit.

The final night was at Milu in Berawa. This is one of the most popular restaurants in the area and its not hard to understand why. As soon as you walk in you are struck by the flow of the place from indoors to outdoors overlooking the rice paddy.

Indoor greenery gives an inviting aura which continues right through to the exterior where the third addition is almost complete.
The exceedingly friendly staff were just so delightful and the menu was a funky mix of local and western food.
The vegetarian spring rolls were delicious as was the gnocci with gorgonzola cheese and ham. The wine we chose was Two Islands Sauvignon Blanc and it did not disappoint.

Well that’s the story of five nights in Bali and I have to say it was up there with the best. Now just have to have a few games of tennis in the heat to sweat of the excess kilos… Cheers
